CREATING THE PERFECT PRECINCT AT MT.ATKINSON

THE PROJECT

The $540 million Mt. Atkinson precinct is located 25km from Melbourne’s CBD in the booming western growth corridor, representing one of Victoria’s largest and most significant greenfield developments.

Consisting of the Melbourne Business Park employment centre, with the capacity to support jobs for more than 19,000 people, the precinct will also deliver thousands of new dwellings within an amenity-rich community for more than 20,000 residents over the next 15 years.

A key component of the Mt. Atkinson community is a significant investment into new infrastructure, including healthcare, three schools, a childcare facility, a proposed new train station, a substantial retail mix and major town centre.

HOW WE HELPED

Mt. Atkinson is situated on 700 hectares of land that was re-zoned from former farming land to Urban Growth Zone with provision for low to medium density housing and a substantial employment precinct to fuel Melbourne’s growing economy.

Contour was brought in as lead town planners to consult on the lengthy and complex initial rezoning and detailed Precinct Structure Plan. This PSP delivered a blueprint for the most effective integration of roads, shopping centres, schools, parks, key transport connections and areas for housing and employment.

Working closely with the Shire of Melton and the Victorian Planning Authority, Contour was able to help crystalise a precinct plan that supported a thriving and self-sustaining residential community, alongside the new Melbourne Business Park employment hub.

As a result, more than 7000 buyers registered their interest prior to the launch of the first stage, with the first 84 blocks selling out in the space of a weekend.

Contour is also now assisting our long standing client Westfield/Scentre Group with its proposal to develop the Mt. Atkinson activity centre.
